MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC LIVINGSTON FACTORY AC1
22 No. Mitsubishi Electric Heat Pump Twin Systems
PROJECT VALUE: £268,000 | CLIENT: Mitsubishi Electric UK
Proair Conditioning were contracted to improve the temperature conditions within the manufacturing area of AC1. This was achieved by the supply and installation of 22 No. Mitsubishi Electric Air Conditioning Heat Pump Systems to provide 550kw of cooling via 22 No. indoor ducted type units.
Although there was an outline design brief from the client, ProAir, in conjunction with Mitsubishi’s in-house project team, had to produce detailed air conditioning design and drawings for approval.
Prior to commencement of the installation phase of this project, a working platform was constructed by the client’s specialist scaffolding contractor directly above the production areas. The scaffold was suspended from the roof to ensure that all works could be undertaken without impeding production below in any way. Its construction ensured that all tasks were undertaken in a safe and secure manner allowing both the production staff below and contractors to remain in a safe and secure environment whilst progress continued on the installation of the new factory air conditioning systems.
The internal units were double stacked and connected to insulated GSS Ductwork which runs in 40m sections along each designated bay. Conditioned air is distributed via adjustable angled jet diffusers, cooling or heating the staff below and providing a more comfortable working environment for all. The external units were mounted on Bigfoot Flexi Frame Support systems on a purpose constructed steelwork frame provided by the client.
As this facility operates on a 24-hour continuous production basis, the project was extremely challenging for all involved therefore meticulous planning and co-ordination were key to ensuring all phases of works ran safely, smoothly and to project plan and timescales.
The air conditioning works included the supply and installation of Mitsubishi Electric Heat Pump systems comprising of 22 No. ceiling ducted fan coils, 22 No. External Heat Pump condensers along with individual remote controllers for each bay as required. The project included all pipe work, condensate, and containment as well as GSS ductwork and diffusers including insulation allowing the new installed systems to provide simultaneous heating and cooling to the required areas.
